The lack of a measurement tool in the literature that evaluates the cultural competence of the multidisciplinary team in primary health care is noteworthy. The aim of this study is to develop a Primary Health Care Professionals' Cultural Competency Scale (PHCP-CCS) by adapting the Nurse Cultural Competency Scale (NCCS) developed by Perng and Watson (2012), and to examine the various factors affecting cultural competency in Turkey. A total of 231 health professionals, including family doctors, family health nurses and community health professionals, participated in this study. In the item analysis, the correlations of the items with the total score varied between .60 and 82. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a three-factor structure that explained 73.5% of total variance. Items 1-8 of the PHCP-CCS were included under the heading Cultural Skills, items 9-16 under Cultural Knowledge and items 17-20 under Cultural Sensitivity. Cronbach's Alpha coefficient for the overall scale was .84 and was calculated as .78, .76 and .87 for the respective factors. The experiences of the participants were grouped and compared for discriminant validity. It was found that being able to speak different languages, having contact with friends and neighbors from different cultures, and being educated about serving people from various cultures increased the cultural competency of primary health professionals. In addition, the PHCP-CCS scores of all the primary health professionals who were happy to be working with migrants and refugees were considerably higher. The results show that PHCP-CCS is a measurement tool that can be used to determine cultural competency among primary health care workers. In addition, the scale is also suitable for use in the clinical field for all professionals providing health services to the individual, families and the community.Yayın The experiences of an international student in a Nursing School in Turkey: a case report(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2016) Idris, Rumensha; Tuzcu, AylaStudying nursing as an international student in Turkey is not an easy job. Having to study in a foreign language and at the same time living in a foreign land is associated with difficulties. Being foreign students under scholarship. we are supposed to learn the Turkish language for 8 months in order to study in our chosen departments. After completing the language course, we start our lessons. The first year is always the toughest. Communicating is difficult due to the short period used learning the language. The lessons are taught in Turkish and understanding what is being taught is nerve wracking. We resought to using the internet as our guide and that is not enough as compared to Participating actively in class. The educational system in the nursing department is a bit hard. The theorical aspects, lab practicals, and clinicals are both tiring and time-consuming. The clinicals is the most stressful. The highest mark comes Irom this aspect. Having to blend with the locals at the hospital and at the same time applying the insufficient knowledge acquired from the theorical aspects is stressful. Due to this, the students are more into getting higher poin|s than actually acquiring knowledge. Excelling in examinations is very easy when you get a good mark in the midterm exams but the fact that we face language problems, reading and understanding the questions takes time and considering the exam duration, we lag behind.Yayın International nursing student and cultural competence(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2016) Medina, Neisa; Tuzcu, Ayla; Bademli, KerimeTogether with globalization in the world, the interaction between people has showed a gradual increase in the internatbnal dimension. Consequently, educatiorıal exchange programs have appeared between countries. Programs such as Erasmus and Mevlana to which Turkey has also participated and which encourage higher education institutions to cooperate with each other. are some of them. Such exchange programs bring forward adaptation of individuals from ditferent cultures to a new culture and their cultural competence. Cultural competence is defined as a competence to be possessed by medical personnel for the purpose of providing a safe and an efficient healthcare service to individuals having a different cultural background. lnternational students, who come from another culture and have to adapt to a new environment, may feel culturally incompetent in various areas throughout their educational processes. lnternational nursing students may remain ıncapable in providing care for individuals in the fields of practice while trying to overcome various adaptation difficulties. lncreasing the cultural competence of international nursing students who face various difficulties could help them provide a standard healthcare service in their community.
