Objective: This study aims to identify clinical training nurses’ and beginner nurses’ opinions about clinical orientation period practiced in a private hospital. Method: The sample of this descriptive study consists of 44 staff nurses (9 clinical training nurses and 35 beginner nurses) working in a private hospital and data were collected by questionnaire. Results: Almost all of beginner nurses and all of clinical training nurses selected their clinic voluntarily. Most of the nurses approve the duration and time of orientation program. Beginner nurses faced difficulties in emergency practices the most and in communicational topics the least. Clinical training nurses think that beginner nurses have more difficulty in emergency practices, orienting themselves to hospital and clinics and have less difficulty in communication and patient care practices. Clinical training nurses express that they had difficulties to teach attitude to the employees during orientation while beginner nurses express that they had difficulties to develop skills. There is a significant difference between the beginner nurses’ gender and educational level and to have difficulties in practicing some skill needed practices. Beginner nurses declared that they had difficulties during clinical orientation because of the intense work pace and because it was their first professional experience. Conclusion: Suggestions were made to improve clinical orientation period.
