Yayın Cauda equina paraganglioma with ependymal morphology: A rare case report(I HOLZAPFEL VERLAG GMBH, 2010) Erban, T.; Erban, N.; Midi, A.; Yener, N.; Cubuk, R.; Sav, A.…Yayın Concurrent medullary and papillary carcinoma of thyroid(2015) Ateşpare, A.; Çalış, A.B.; Çelik, Ö; Yener, N.; Vural, ÇSimultaneous occurrence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in the same thyroid gland is a rare condition. These tumors derive from different cells; PTC originates from follicular cells whereas MTC originates from parafollicular cells. Because of this, the treatment of these tumors also differs. This article describes two rare cases of the simultaneous occurrence of MTC and PTC in the thyroid gland.Yayın INSULAR TYPE OVARIAN CARCINOID TUMOR ARISING IN A MATURE CYSTIC TERATOMA(LIPPINCOTT WILLIAMS & WILKINS, 2015) Gursoy, A.; Ilter, E.; Yener, N.; Celik, A.; Peker, B. Y.Background. Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is among the main challenges in kidney transplantation. It causes delayed graft function and graft loss in long-term follow-up studies. Anti-T lymphocyte globulin (ATG), a common induction immunosuppressive, has been used in kidney transplantation to prevent rejection. Fractalkine (FKN) is among the main chemokines involved in IRI. This study was designed to identify the relationship between ATG and FKN after warm ischemia in rat kidneys. Methods. Rats were divided into three groups: Control, IRI+normal saline(NS) and IRI+ATG. After IRI was initiated, rats received a dose of ATG or NS during surgery as well as two more doses at 24 and 48 hours after surgery. All rats were humanely killed at 72 hours. Results. The concentration of FKN as well as dendritic cells (DC) and macrophages were lower in both peripheral blood and the injured kidney among ATG-treated versus control rats. Additionally cell necrosis, cytoplasmic vacuolization, cast formation, and tubular dilatation were improved among ATG-treated rats. Serum creatinine levels were lower in rats that received ATG. Conclusion. ATG depleted the concentration of FKN, which inhibits migrations of DCs and macrophages into the kidney, and reduces IRI-related pathology.Yayın Rarely seen tongue base schwannoma: Report of a case(Duzce University Medical School, 2014) Çelik, Ö.; Ateşpare, A.; Boyacı, Z.; Yener, N.Schwannoma also known as neurilemmoma, is benign, encapsulated, slow-growing tumor of the developing neural sheath’s Schwann cells. Aetiology is unknown. Usually appears between the ages of 20-40. Aproximately 45% of the tumors are seen in the head and neck region. Only 1% of them are encountered in the oral cavity. Tongue is the most common location in the oral cavity region. However location in the tongue base is very rare. A 26-year-old male patient admitted to our clinic with a history of slowly growing swelling on the base of the tongue. The patient complained of the disturbance to mastication, swallowing and phonation. Diagnosis was confirmed by excisional biopsy. Histologic identification of Antoni A and B areas pathologically completed the diagnosis of schwannoma. There was no recurrence in follow-up of 6 months after the operation. © 2012 Düzce Medical Journal.Yayın Solitary cerebellar metastasis from a non-muscle invasive transitional cell carcinoma of bladder(Ege University Press, 2015) Kelten, B.; Ekici, S.; Erdoğan, H.; Sinanoğlu, O.; Yener, N.; Karaoğlan, A.Brain metastasis from non muscle invasive transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder occurs very rarely. Herein, a patient who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor and received intravesical bacillus Calmette- Guérin for pT1, G3 bladder carcinoma accompanied by carcinoma in situ, and who subsequently developed solitary cerebellar metastasis following 18 months cystoscopic follow up period with normal findings was reported. To our knowledge, only two cases of solitary cerebellar metastasis from pT1 bladder cancer was reported in the English literature. © 2015, Ege University Press. All rights reserved.
