Yayın Evidence-based practices in nursing using “sensory rooms” for treating patients with autistic spectrum disorder(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2019) Markova, Stefani; Polihronova, VioletaSUMMARY: Autism comes from Greek “autos” – alone, also known as an autism spectrum disorder, is considered to be a range of neurodevelopmental disorders that includes autism and Asperger syndrome. Autists show deviation it three major ways – problems in social communication – verbal and non-verbal interaction, limited areas of interests and activities. Individuals on the spectrum are often hyper sensitive to sensory stimulation. This hyper sensitivity is used to create a special kind of rooms called “Sensory room”. These special rooms are equipped with lightening, music, and objects that are designed to develop a person’s sense. The nurses’ work is to find effective methods to help autists cope in the new environment. INTRODUCTION: Sensory rooms are useful for a wide range of users regardless of their age or ability. The work in this room requires participation of a multidisciplinary team, in which the nurse also belongs. The nurse must base her care on each individual patient not generalize nursing care to all patients with ASD. The nurse should look closely for verbal and non-verbal indicators, such as covering the ears. Avoiding the stress because of hyper sensitivity the nurse can reduce loud noises, being aware of lightening with patients who are disturbed by bright lights. Therapeutic touch could also benefit some children because it does not involve physical touch to patients. It is also important to find out which sensory experience relaxes and reduces anxiety in each patient. The nursing interventions for ASD patients could significantly reduce stress and anxiety. Sensory resistance and sensory dysfunction are very common with the ASD population and the existing of Sensory room can improve sensitivity for patients with autism. The big parts of working nurses are female. This is not by accident. The women are in generally compassionate and emotionally attached to the pain of others. Nurses are related to the hospital treatment of all kinds of patients; their main goal is to gain their trust .Intimate partner violence and domestic violence and abuse IPV/DVA are a massive health problem. The response of nurses to women in these circumstances can have a significant effect on their willingness to open up or to seek help. Some responses to assist successful communication in these circumstances include listening, accepting and understanding. Introduction: As an act of domestic violence, DVA is considered every act of violence or other abuse in a domestic setting, such as in marriage or cohabitation. Intimate partner violence IPV is often using synonymously with domestic violence abuse. IPV refers to an act of physical or psychological abuse between intimate partners. The difference is that DVA can include all family member not only intimate related once. This includes the children and other people living in common circumstances. A lot of women are hospitalized because of domestic violence, but the cases with hospitalized children are becoming more and more common. Some marks of domestic abuse can be easily detected, such as physical marks. In other cases, the evidence may not be visible such as low self – esteem, anxiety and constant apprehension. Research suggests women who have been an object of violence tend not to ask professionals for help. The role of the nurse in cases of found violence is to protect and understand the victim. According to “World health organization” the violence is “The intentional use of physical force or power, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, that either result in or have a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death or psychological harm.”. There are different types of violence. According to one of the classifications, violence can be considered in 3 dimensions: physical - verbal, active-passive, direct - indirect. In Bulgaria, more than 50% of working nurses are victims of one of the three kinds of violence in their workplace. Most common violence among health specialist is verbal and direct-indirect aggression. Introduction: According to Bulgarian definition like an act of violence is consider every act of aggression against a working health specialist that creates a hostile working place or affects physically or mentally a nurse, doctor or every other health specialist. The rights of nurses are protected by “Bulgarian association of health care specialist”. In case of a violation of these rights, it may provide them with a medical defence lawyer. The responsibilities of nurses are included in „Ordinance 1 of February 8, 2011, on Occupational activities that nurses, midwives, associated medical specialists and health assistants can perform by themselves or by request”. Each act of violence against a medical specialist is considering a crime; the offender shall be punished by imprisonment for any term of years according to Penal Code of the Republic of Bulgaria. Nurses are the ones who care about the health of the population and should not become patients as a result of violence. Different kinds of organizations are created to protect the rights of nurses from patient’s aggression. Nurses, as a part of the healthcare system, must be respected and valued because they protect the health, the most important human value.
